Under the influence?!
The summer sunshine can spark workers to visit pub gardens for a lunchtime tipple, however the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a guidance note for Employers titled 'Don’t mix it! A Guide for employers on alcohol at work.'
The HSE revealed that 90% of personnel directors previously surveyed reported that alcohol consumption caused a problem within their company, with 17% describing such issues as 'major.'
Areas of concern included: Reduced productivity and performance, Lateness/Absenteeism, Reduced team morale, Safety issues, Poor behaviour and adverse effects on company image.
Employers are reminded that if an employee is allowed to work while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they are liable if that, or any other, employee, is put at risk.
Employees must also be aware that they too may be liable if they fail to take reasonable care of themselves and others.
If you are concerned about such issues within your organisation, you may require specialist HR Advice. Call Rowena Stanley today to see how the Appoint HR Service can help: 01225 313130
