Happy Monday?!

There's a scientific explanation behind a dread of Monday mornings; research shows that the human body clock runs on a longer day than 24 hours, meaning that by Monday morning you have accumulated a sleep deficit of at least an hour.

Busy weekends and hectic working weeks only add to the impact on your body.

How to brighten up your Mondays:

1) Where possible, it is recommended that you have an extra hour of sleep on a Monday morning. Going to bed earlier is not the solution, as your body clock is unlikely to switch off sooner. (But don't make yourself late for work!)

2) If the above isn't possible, aim for at least an extra 15 minutes of sleep. You can 'buy' this time on a Sunday evening by making your lunch, laying out your work-wear and packing your briefcase.

3) Get up as soon as it's time to - don't be tempted to hit the snooze button!

4) End your morning shower with a blast of cold water - a perfect wake up call. And, if you have time, exercising in the morning is a fantastic way of kick-starting your body's endorphins.

5) Go outside - sunlight tells your body to wake up for the day. In the darker months there are special lamps available for the same effect.

6) Caffeine (in moderation!) gives the body an instant energy boost.

7) Advance preparations: before you rush out of the office on a Friday, spend a few moments tidying your desk and writing any to-do lists, making Monday morning that bit more welcoming.

Are you doing all of the above and still fearing Mondays? Perhaps it's time for a new job! Begin your search with Appoint today: applicants@appointco.uk
