Lower Absence, High Costs!
The recession led to the lowest sickness levels since records began 23 years ago, however the cost to the economy remains high...
Research conducted by CBI/Pfizer found that employees took an average of 6.4 sick days in 2009, totalling 180 million days; this is a reduction from 6.7 days from the last surveyed year.
False sick days continue to be a problem, with an estimated cost to the economy of £2.5bn each year.
Larger businesses and public sector companies suffer from the highest absence levels: up to 8.3 days.
Back pain and mental health issues were the primary cause for leave.
