The average worker's annual salary has reduced by £1000 as a result of the recession, causing buying power to be less than that of 2004.

This reduction has been attributed to limited company profits, restricting employers from providing pay increases, with the impact of inflation worsening the outcome.

Levels of unemployment, and a continued fear of redundancy, further amplify this issue.
