Younger age for minimum wage!
Workers turning 21 will be pleased to learn that they will be eligible for the adult rate national minimum wage as of October.
This is a reduction from the current age of 22 and increases the hourly rate by 2.2% to £5.93 per hour.
The change is estimated to cost UK business just over £48 million in total.
There is also good news for younger workers, as those aged between 18 and 20 will see their hourly rate increase from a minimum of £4.83 to £4.92 and the under 18s rate increases from £3.57 to £3.64 per hour.
Apprentices under 19/over 19 but within their first year do not currently qualify for any national minimum wage, so will be delighted with the introduction of a minimum £2.50 per hour.
