Interview Blunders...
In times of increased competition, jobseekers must be extra vigilant to ensure a best impression is made during each interview. It is, therefore, surprising that the following blunders are continually made:
* Responding to texts/answering phones
* Too much personal information given
* Arrogance/Lack of interest
* Dressing inappropriately
The most commonly cited reasons for declining candidates include:
* Criticising their employers (32%)
* Not asking relevant questions (51%)
* Failing to provide details about specific achievements (57%)
The research, conducted by a recruitment website, also revealed the following real-life excerpts:
* A candidate who wore his bike helmet for the duration of his interview.
* A candidate who made an international phone call when the interviewer left the room.
* A candidate who wanted to be a vicar when applying for a full-time accounting position.
* A candidate who fell asleep.
* A candidate who brought a family member with her to the interview.
* A candidate who asked for a cigarette.
* A candidate who talked about her love life.
* A candidate who dunked his biscuit in a hot drink (which broke in the mug) and dug it out with his fingers.
* A candidate who said she didn't know why she was at the interview.
